A superb fantasy themed chess set based on the legendary character of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
Arthur was the first born son of King Uther Pendragon and lived around the 5th century. The times were troubled and Merlin, a wise magician, advised that the baby Arthur be raised in a secret place and that none should know his true identity.
As Merlin feared, when King Uther died there was a great conflict over who should be the next king. Merlin used his magic to set a sword in a stone. Written on the sword, in letters of gold, were these words: 'who pulleth out this sword of thi stone os the rightwisw born King of All England'. All of the contenders took their turn in trying to draw the sword, but none succeeded. Quite by chance, Arthur withdrew the swird for another to use in a tournament and following this became king.
From his base in Camelot, Artgur with the help of his Knights of the Round Table, battled against the Saxons who, since the Romans left Britain, were slowly but surely taking over the country. Arthur was supported ably by his wife Queen Guinevere.
